While everyone is talking about AI, many businesses don’t have basic visibility of their data.
We live in an age where we have software to do everything for us, yet it’s sometimes impossibly difficult to see what’s going on. Even some of the best software sucks at reporting, or it doesn’t focus on the things you care about. Or, worse, they offer it to enterprise customers only and it just isn’t affordable.
But to improve your business, you have to know your numbers. So what can you do? One way is to build your own reporting pipeline.
Enter the data warehouse.
Fancy term, but it’s really just a database, structured in a way that makes reporting easy. With the help of a developer, you can pull data out of your existing software, transform it, and store it in your warehouse. You can then connect it to dashboard software like Power BI so you can track your KPIs in real time. You and your team can then create new reports at any time, without developer assistance.
A major benefit of a warehouse is that you can connect other software too, like your Xero or MYOB data. So now you can see everything in one place and grow your business.
But remember you can’t report on data you don’t have, so start with the basics and make sure you’re capturing the inputs you need for your KPIs.
